Biography
Sheng Wang holds a professorship in the School of Computer Science at Wuhan University, with a concurrent affiliation to the School of Artificial Intelligence. He obtained his Ph.D. from RMIT University, and both his Master of Engineering (M.E.) and Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degrees from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA).
His main research focuses on multi-model database theory and systems, with applications spanning scientific discovery, public transportation, and data markets. His work has received funding from sources including the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), and various industrial partners.
He has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed papers published in top-tier conferences and journals such as SIGMOD and PVLDB. His research achievements have earned him several accolades, including the Best Paper Runner-up Award at IEEE BigData 2025, the Best Presentation Award at the 2021 CCF Wuhan Young Faculty CCF Wuhan Young Faculty Academic Forum, the Best Paper Award at ADC 2017, and the school-level victory in the 2016 3 Minute Thesis Competition.
In academic service, he regularly acts as a senior program committee (PC) member for CIKM and a program committee member for conferences like KDD, PVLDB, and ICDE. He was honored as an outstanding reviewer for KDD 2025 and serves as an associate chair for CIKM 2025. Additionally, he holds the position of Secretary-General of the CCF Wuhan Chapter.
